Golden Warrior Nominee- Matthew Tortolani

Matthew Tortolani

Matriculated from: Oak Grove Middle School

Future Path Plans: 4 year University, studying athletic training or business

Favorite Subject: Health- learning about the body is fascinating, and my goals in life revolve around Health

Most Challenging Class this Year: AP Calculus

Something he has always wanted: To travel the world and meet different people, and get to know their cultures.

What he likes most about being a Warrior: I like how even though people look down on the Warrior community, we don't let it get to our heads, and we help anyone with anything, no matter what.

Favorite Weekend Activity: plans with family or friends

Favorite Place to Eat: Monsoon Burger

Favorite Place to Vacation: Costa Rica

One skill he could teach anyone: How to have fun even in bad situations, and to look positively on life.

If he could do high school all over again, the one thing he would change would be... I would change how dedicated I was to my future back in my freshman year.

Best tip for success to Underclassmen: Form relationships with your teachers as you go through high school, they will guide you to success and help you become a better student in the Warrior community.

Inspirational Figures in his Life: Nelson Mandela because even though he spent 20 years in jail for his fight against the apartheid regime, he never gave up and he became the first democratic leader in South Africa. He brought the nation together.

His Top 5 Contributions to the School and Community:
  • Drum Line Captain and part of the music program
  • Being in the Health Academy and an active HOSA member
  • Playing golf and baseball
  • Volunteering for various clubs including Interact and CSF
  • Interning in sports medicine and accumulating more than 150 hours so far serving our sports.
What he feels makes a great leader: Being a good leader means having integrity, being inspirational for the people who look up to you, being passionate about what you're doing, and being accountable for situations that do not work out.

An example of a great leader: Winston Churchill

Something that YVHS does really well: Provides opportunities to its students and having a caring staff who is concerned about their students and their futures.

Two ideas to improve things here at YVHS: Increased dedication by the students, teachers and administration and more student-related activities

Something he would like to improve about himself: I want to improve my human interaction skills.

One Staff Member he will never forget: Ms Cooper- my family has known her for a while, and she has always been great to me and has helped me build character.

Quote of the Moment: "It's not whether you get knocked down, it's whether you get back up." ~Vince Lombardi
