Congratulations to our Golden Warrior Winners of 2017!

The Golden Warrior award is the longest running tradition on campus, with outstanding seniors being honored and remembered on a perpetual plaque in the office since the school opened.
These outstanding Seniors were nominated by staff, community members and members of the Junior class.

Our first award is the Golden Warrior Scholar. This is the valedictorian of the class, the student with the highest cumulative GPA here at YV. This year, this student is remarkable in many ways - not only did he maintain a 4.32 GPA average during his time here, but he was involved in so many ways- He ran cross country, announced at football games, announced at basketball games, served as an intern in sports medicine, was a captain for the baseball team, sang in Madrigals and choir, played advanced guitar, served as CSF President and Interact VP, and is a featured sports columnist for the Concord Pioneer. He is heading off to UCLA next year- Jacob Samuels.


Our next award is Golden Warrior Citizenship. This is the warrior who gives freely and selflessly of their time, both to the community and the school. Our winner this year has a 4.09 cumulative GPA and has served as a leader on campus being involved in the Health Academy and HOSA. She has served more than 100 hours with our athletic teams as a sports medicine intern, and volunteers freely of her time with Interact, having assisted with planting a memorial tree, painting our school benches, organizing a toiletry drive for the homeless, a winter clothing drive, and blankets for buddies, for animals in the shelter. She was recently awarded the Innovation Scholarship, which will allow her to take classes this summer at Stanford before heading off to UC Irvine to study Neurology.  Dalhya Gomez


Next up, our Golden Warrior Leadership Award. This goes to the Warrior who has served as a leader in the classroom, the school and the community. The walk and talk the Warrior Way and give freely of their time to make their community a better place. This year, we have a tie.
Our first winner of the Leadership award is a leader on and off the field. He serves as leader on our football team, being awarded 1st team all league strong safety two years running. He serves as an Ed academy leader, and serves as an intern at Oak Grove Middle school. He volunteers on campus for sporting events, and serves as a campus ambassador, with his friendly and confident demeanor. He will be heading to Concordia University in Nebraska to study Religion and hopes to become a pastor. Darius McVay!


Our second winner has been in Leadership for 4 years. She has served as a class officer for two years and this year she is your ASB President. She is seen on campus after hours planning events and volunteering her time, and she wrote the application for the state outstanding leadership award and won the last two years. She volunteers at Target for the Arts, chaperoning kids to the theatre, and she teaches kids to ride and care for horses. She is in Dance 3 and the musical. She organizes and leads not only the ASB class but events on campus for us all to enjoy. Next year she plans to attend feather river college and study equine science. Hunter Caldwell



And now, our Overall Golden Warrior. This is the outstanding senior who exemplifies excellence in all three categories- academics, citizenship, and leadership. Our winner this year has a 4.18 GPA. She is a leader in every group she is a part of. She has been in ASB leadership for four years. Serves as a peer leader in Dance 3, Choir, and took the lead in this year’s musical. She helped start up our ladies golf team and has served as a captain for the last couple of years. She is our Link Crew Commissioner, and our Rally Commissioner, the secretary of Interact, and a correspondent for the Concord Transcript. She has volunteered her time with the Special Olympics, campus cleanups, Interact events including memorial tree planting and bench painting, as well as painting murals for our elementary school. In one month, she will head off to BYU with an early admission to get started with her nursing degree. LAUREN CURTIS!
